Prostaglandin E1 Descrption

Alprostadil, USP for intravascular infusion contains 500 micrograms Alprostadil, more commonly known as prostaglandin E1, in 1 mL dehydrated alcohol. Prostaglandin E1 is used in maintaining a patent ductus arteriosus in newborns. Prostaglandin E1 is also as urethral suppositories and in injectable form. Prostaglandin E1 is also used for critical limb ischemia

Prostaglandin E1 Application

1. Alprostadil (Prostglandin E1) is used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in adult males. The efficacy of alprostadil in treating ED varies with the cause; response rate is generally lower in patients with ED due to mixed etiologies compared to those with ED due to neurogenic, psychogenic, or vasculogenic causes.

2. Derivatives of peanut tetraene. Can significantly inhibit and release platelet aggregation, improve blood microcirculation, but also directly on the role of vascular smooth muscle, dilation of arteries, half-life of up to 5 to 10 minutes. Clinical use for all types of angina, reduce myocardial infarct size, maintenance of infant arterial duct opening, arterial and pulmonary hypertension, peripheral vascular disease and other forms of anticoagulation in the treatment of cardiopulmonary bypass.

3. For myocardial infarction, heart failure, thrombotic vasculitis, chronic arterial occlusion, retinal central venous thrombosis and so on.
